The Phelps Health Emergency Department is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Emergency Department is an important component in our ability to serve the community.
The Emergency Department is always staffed by an emergency physician, and a wide range of on-call specialists are available. Evan Cameron, MD, serves as the medical director of emergency services for Phelps Health.
The Phelps Health Emergency Department has the ability to use telemedicine and has working relationships with multiple tertiary care facilities for consultations or specialty care, including pediatric care.

Designated Stroke and STEMI Center
Phelps Health is a Level III Stroke Center in Missouri. According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, a Level II Stroke Center generally provides definitive care to high volumes of stroke patients within a region.
Phelps Health is a Level III STEMI Center in Missouri. STEMI refers to a specific type of heart attack. According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, a Level III STEMI Center plays an important role in providing access into the healthcare system and patient care in nonmetropolitan areas.
Jay Crump, DO, Memorial Fund
In 2010, the Phelps Health Board of Trustees voted to rename the Emergency Department in honor of Jay Crump, DO. Dr. Crump served as the hospital’s medical director of emergency services from 1984-2009. He also served as vice president and chief medical officer of the healthcare organization from 1997 until his death in 2010.
Following his death, Dr. Crump’s family worked with the Phelps Health Foundation to create the Jay Crump, DO, Memorial Fund, which provides funding for the Emergency Department. To learn more about this fund or to donate, please visit the Phelps Health Foundation’s website.
