Telemedicine capabilities that use secure audio and video connections are available at Phelps Health for certain situations involving emergency or immediate care as well as maternal and fetal medicine.
Emergency and Immediate Care
The Phelps Health Emergency Department has the ability to use telemedicine and has working relationships with multiple tertiary care facilities for consultations for specialty care, including pediatric care. Using telemedicine technology allows patients at Phelps Health to receive care without having to drive to another facility that may be hours away.
Telemedicine capabilities also are available at Phelps Health Immediate Care Waynesville. “At Immediate Care Waynesville, we are able to connect with specialty physicians throughout Phelps Health, in our Emergency Department in Rolla or specialists at Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital,” says Jeffery Kerr, DO, CMD, medical director for Phelps Health’s Immediate Care program.
Maternal and Fetal Medicine
Phelps Health has partnered with SSM Health to provide high-risk pregnancy care using telemedicine. Phelps Health is one of four outreach locations for SSM Health’s Maternal and Fetal Care Center.
Through the TeleTouch software, women with high-risk pregnancies can receive ultrasounds and consultation services via telemedicine technology. A sonographer in the patient’s room can perform an ultrasound while a maternal and fetal medicine physician remotes into the exam room and views the images in real-time.
