Dr. Darren George

Senior Vice President/Chief Medical Officer

I’m Dr. Darren George, a board-certified family medicine physician, a senior vice president and the chief medical officer (CMO) at Phelps Health. I completed my premed studies at Texas A&M University and earned my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from the University of North Texas Health Science Center, Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.

With 25 years of experience as a practicing physician, I’m passionate about patient-centered care and improving operational efficiencies. Throughout my career, I’ve focused on building quality healthcare programs that enhance access, support provider education and improve patient outcomes. As a medical director supporting nearly 3,000 providers across 16 states, I’ve driven system-wide initiatives, including expanding annual Medicare visits, developing telehealth access programs, creating patient access centers and implementing remote patient-monitoring systems.

My career includes a variety of executive leadership roles. I’ve served on medical executive committees, chaired national quality and patient access committees, and led physician leadership councils. These roles strengthened my commitment to collaborative leadership, while allowing me to mentor physicians and advanced practice providers. I’m particularly proud of my work in developing electronic medical record (EMR) efficiencies.

As a healthcare leader, I’ve successfully balanced clinical practice and organizational initiatives. My experience includes leading COVID-19 responses, managing urgent care facilities and expanding healthcare services. As I continue as in healthcare leadership, I’m committed to innovative healthcare delivery models that enhance patient outcomes and professional development.
