The Phelps Health Emergency Department is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Emergency Department is an important component in our ability to serve the community.

The Emergency Department is always staffed by an emergency physician, and a wide range of on-call specialists are available. Evan Cameron, MD, serves as the medical director of emergency services for Phelps Health.

The Phelps Health Emergency Department has the ability to use telemedicine and has working relationships with multiple tertiary care facilities for consultations or specialty care, including pediatric care.

The Phelps Health Emergency Department cannot give out medical advice over the phone. Please contact your primary care doctor if you have any medical questions.

Designated Stroke and STEMI Center

Phelps Health is a Level III Stroke Center in Missouri. According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), a Level III Stroke Center plays an important role in providing access into the system and important patient care in nonmetropolitan areas.

According to the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS), a Level III STEMI Center plays an important role in providing access into the healthcare system and patient care in nonmetropolitan areas.

Phelps Health is equipped to treat STEMI patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We have two cardiac catheterization labs and a team of interventional cardiologists extensively trained in catheterization procedures. Patients experiencing a STEMI can be treated – and recover – in their own community, with their support system close by.

Jay Crump, DO, Memorial Program

In 2010, the Phelps Health Board of Trustees voted to rename the Emergency Department in honor of Jay Crump, DO. Dr. Crump served as the hospital’s medical director of emergency services from 1984-2009. He also served as vice president and chief medical officer of the healthcare organization from 1997 until his death in 2010.

Following his death, Dr. Crump’s family worked with the Phelps Health Foundation to create the Jay Crump, DO, Memorial Program, which provides funding for the Emergency Department. To learn more about this fund or to donate, please visit the Phelps Health Foundation’s webpage.
