About Me

I’m Darren K. George, DO, and I joined Phelps Health in July 2024 as a primary care and family medicine physician, a senior vice president, and chief medical officer. I am accepting new patients ages 10 and older at the Phelps Health Waynesville Medical Plaza. I chose Phelps Health because its purpose-driven, patient-centric approach echoes my care philosophy.

From a young age, I knew that I wanted to serve others. Healthcare gave me a clear path to that goal. After my undergraduate training, I enrolled in medical school and earned my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. I am proud to say that I have been a practicing physician for over 30 years.

Originally from Texas, I currently live in Rolla with my wife and two dogs. I am the proud parent of an adult daughter. My wife and I enjoy spending time outdoors and staying active by hiking or biking. Indoors, I build computers for fun.

Family medicine allows me to treat a wide variety of conditions and build long-term relationships with my patients. Prevention and wellness are central to promoting the body’s natural tendency toward health and self-healing. Medicine requires a team approach – patients and physicians working together to find the best answer for the patient. Behind the scenes, we can impact patient health by expanding access to medical services and supporting continuing education for providers.

As a family medicine physician, I see patients for both acute and chronic illnesses, as well as general health and wellness visits. I perform minor in-office procedures, such as removing skin lesions and ingrown toenails.

I also offer telehealth visits, which allow patients to visit with me remotely using a smartphone, tablet or computer with an internet connection and audio-video capabilities. Telehealth is one of the ways we can improve access and make an impact on the health of an entire region.
