About Me

I’m Hannah Shoupe, PA-C, a certified physician assistant, who joined the Phelps Health Pain Management Center in December 2024. I work closely with my collaborating physician, Glenn Kunkel, MD.

I see patients 18 and older for chronic, acute, back, joint and neck pain. I also treat arthritis, headaches and cancer-related pain.

Common procedures performed in the Pain Management Center include kyphoplasty (an injected treatment for fractured vertebrae), discograms (tests used to tell if a specific disc may be causing pain), spinal biopsies, spinal cord stimulation, epidural steroid injections, sciatica injections, intrathecal pain pumps, dorsal root ganglion (DRG) stimulation therapy and more.

I’m originally from western North Carolina, but as a military spouse, I’ve lived in three different states over the past few years. My husband and I now live on base at Fort Leonard Wood with our two children and two dogs. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking and keeping up with my kids’ many activities.

I’ve always wanted to help others, and my high school anatomy class sparked a deeper interest in medicine. During my PA (physician assistant) training, a clinical rotation in addiction medicine inspired me to focus on pain management, where I can make a difference by helping prevent addiction. I believe the key to providing exceptional care is actively listening to patients, especially in pain management. Pain can’t be measured or tested – we must rely on what our patients tell us.

When I moved to the area, many people shared how much they loved Phelps Health and praised it as a great place to work. Their enthusiasm inspired me to join the team, and I’m proud to be part of an organization that means so much to local communities.

To make care more accessible, I also offer telehealth visits, which allow patients to visit with me remotely using a smartphone, tablet or computer with an internet connection and audio-video capabilities.
