About Me
I’m Mark Pajeau, MD, and I joined Phelps Health in June 2025 as a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist. I treat adult patients for a wide range of cancer and blood-related conditions. I’m also board certified in internal medicine and psychiatry.
I began my career as a molecular biologist doing agricultural research, but decided I wanted to help people more directly. While working as a clinical trial coordinator in cancer research, I enrolled in medical school. My experience supporting patients and families facing cancer led me to pursue additional training in oncology, psychiatry and palliative care. I firmly believe in addressing not only the physical, but also the emotional and mental needs of my patients.
I’m originally from Chicago, Illinois, but I find it more rewarding to practice in rural communities, where the need for care is greatest and one doctor can make a big difference in patients’ lives. I also enjoy becoming part of the community and getting to know people. I stay involved by attending education and outreach events to promote public health.
I chose to work at Phelps Health because their strong commitment to the community aligns with my own values. Paired with their high standard of care and access to clinical trials and research through the Siteman Cancer Network, Phelps Health feels like a natural fit.
I live in Rolla with my wife and son. We enjoy traveling, camping and playing sports. I am a Trail Life leader and have coached my son’s basketball and soccer teams. I’m also a history buff and like to unwind by working out, watching a good movie or spending time with extended family.
I treat my patients how I’d like to be treated. I don’t rush. I listen and answer their questions truthfully, with compassion and in easy-to-understand terms. I believe that building a personal relationship with patients helps me better support them when they need it most.
