At our recent Town Halls, Phelps Health leaders updated employees on what’s happening across our health system.
Construction News
Quite a few construction projects are in progress right now. We are very close to completion on our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) base. We’re hoping to finish in May and host an open house before our crews move in. We are also building out urology clinic space at the Delbert Day Cancer Institute, with two new CT machines coming. Renovations are in progress in our ICU and at our Waynesville location, with a new MRI and therapy space in the works. This year, we’re starting our biggest project – a new emergency room off of our east entrance, which will incorporate a host of research-based improvements.
Patient Experience
We recently made a switch from measuring clinical results to the “would recommend” metric, which is considered the gold standard and a much stronger indicator of loyalty. We all impact patient experience and monitoring these scores helps us stay on track.
Employee Advisory Council
Our Employee Advisory Council (EAC) is made up of 15+ members who represent all areas of our organization. The EAC gives feedback on a variety of issues and helps guide decision making. Currently, the EAC is looking at employee engagement scores and focusing on what makes employees feel valued.
Regulatory Compliance
The Joint Commission (TJC) was on campus recently to survey our lab and we are proceeding with their recommendations. TJC was also recently on hand for a disease-specific certification, which involves becoming a Primary Heart Attack Center. We were recently granted this prestigious designation, and you can learn more about that here.
We will likely proceed with other disease-specific certifications, such as stroke care and orthopedic care. These certifications help us drive outcomes and provide the highest quality standard of care.
Also related to compliance is a patient safety survey, which took place during the month of March. This helps us gather information and hold ourselves accountable for the highest level of patient safety.
Celebrations
Next year, Phelps Health will be celebrating 75 years of caring for our communities. We have formed a committee that will work on a variety of different ways we can honor this tremendous achievement. We want to make sure our patients and community members are included in this celebration.
