Phelps Health will celebrate National Cancer Survivors Day with a breakfast celebration for area cancer survivors on Saturday, June 4, 2022, from 8:00-10:00 AM at Greentree Christian Church, 800 Greentree Road in Rolla.

This year’s theme is “Hope Grows Here.” All cancer survivors in the community are invited to attend the event.

Each cancer survivor plus one guest can receive a free breakfast courtesy of Colton’s Steak House and Grill in Rolla. Cancer survivors who pre-register by May 6 also will receive a free T-shirt.

According to the National Cancer Survivors Day Foundation, a cancer survivor is anyone living with a history of cancer – from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of life.

National Cancer Survivors Day (NCSD) is celebrated in June each year. NCSD is a celebration for those who have survived, an inspiration for those recently diagnosed, a gathering of support for families and an outreach to the community.

Speakers at this year’s breakfast include Curtis Murr, a cancer survivor, and Christopher Spencer, MD, MS, DABR, the medical director of the Phelps Health Delbert Day Cancer Institute (DDCI) and medical director of radiation oncology at Phelps Health.

The event will return to Greentree Christian Church for the first time since 2019. The event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Last year, Phelps Health held a socially-distanced, drive-through breakfast celebration at the DDCI.
