Most people with COVID-19 have mild illness and can recover at home without medical care.
If you test positive for COVID-19, you should stay at home and only leave your house to get medical care.
Here are four things to keep in mind if you have COVID-19:
1. Keep track of your symptoms.
If you're sick with COVID-19, it's best to monitor your symptoms – body aches, fever, chills, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell or other symptoms.
2. Take care of yourself.
Make sure that you are staying well hydrated, you are getting enough rest and take Tylenol, as needed. As you're monitoring your symptoms, make sure that they're not getting worse.
3. Keep in touch with your doctor.
Be sure to stay in contact with your local doctor. Be on the lookout for any emergent signs, such as shortness of breath and worsening of symptoms. You should definitely seek out care and possibly even go to the emergency department [if your symptoms get worse].
4. Prevent the spread of COVID-19 to others.
When you have loved ones in your home, it's best to stay in a separate room, and stay away from your family members as best as you can. If you do have to be around them, it's best to wear a mask and make sure that you're washing your hands as much as possible.
