Rachelle Gorrell, DO
Chief Medical Officer, Clinics
I’m Dr. Rachelle Gorrell, a board-certified family medicine physician and the chief medical officer for the Phelps Health Medical Group. I earned my medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, and completed my family medicine residency at Riverside Health System in Wichita, Kansas.
I’ve practiced medicine in the St. James community since 2001 and officially joined Phelps Health in 2013. Since 2019, I’ve also served as division chief of primary care. As chief medical officer, I serve as the senior physician executive for the medical group and partner closely with leadership to ensure care across our clinics is safe, high-quality, efficient and sustainable. Most importantly, this role allows our physicians and advanced practice providers to have a strong voice at the table.
I was born and raised in Oberlin, Kansas, and now live on my husband’s family farm in Bland, Missouri, where we’ve made our home since 2005. My husband and I enjoy time with our two children, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, along with a lively mix of longhorn cattle, dogs, cats, pigeons and peacocks. Outside of work, I enjoy reading murder mysteries, following Kansas State University sports and life on the farm.
My leadership style is collaborative and service-driven. I believe listening, building trust and valuing relationships are key to long-term success—especially in healthcare. One of the best pieces of advice I received as a medical student was to greet everyone you pass in the halls. Even if you don't know them, they may know you. It’s a simple reminder that every employee at our health system plays an important role and deserves that acknowledgment and respect. I’ve been blessed throughout my career to work alongside exceptional colleagues and to have the opportunity to help so many patients and families.
I chose Phelps Health because of its strong sense of community transparency and patient-centered mission, and I’m honored to help lead our organization as we continue to go beyond better.
