The Phelps Health Sleep Center in Rolla has maintained accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for 15 consecutive years, demonstrating a commitment to high-quality care for people with sleep disorders.
“Our team of dedicated sleep specialists is committed to helping patients achieve healthier sleep every night,” said Terrence Coulter, MD, director of the Phelps Health Sleep Center. “Better sleep leads to better overall health, and we’re proud to play a part in improving our patients’ lives.”
AASM-accredited sleep centers provide diagnostic and therapeutic care for people who have problems related to sleep and alertness. Sleep disorders include obstructive and central sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy.
“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Phelps Health Sleep Center on meeting the rigorous standards required to maintain accreditation for sleep services,” said AASM President Dr. Anita V. Shelgikar. “AASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep care, reflecting a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered services.”
To receive and maintain accreditation for a 5-year period, a sleep center must meet or exceed all standards for professional health care as designated by the AASM. These standards address core areas, including personnel, facilities and equipment, policies and procedures, data acquisition, patient care, and quality assurance.
Additionally, the sleep center’s goals must be clearly stated and include plans for positively affecting the quality of medical care in the community it serves. The AASM accredited its first sleep disorders center in 1977. Today, there are more than 2,300 AASM-accredited sleep centers across the country.
