Phelps Health’s Wound Ostomy Center has moved to a new, larger location, effective Thursday, June 16, 2022, to better serve patients in south-central Missouri.
The Wound Ostomy Center has relocated from the North Entrance of Phelps Health Hospital to the East Entrance of the hospital, next to the Sleep Center. Starting June 16, patients will need to park in the Blue Lot and use the East Entrance to go to their wound and ostomy care appointments.
“Moving the Wound Ostomy Center to this new, bigger area will allow for future growth in this service,” said Jen Willden, executive director of Phelps Health Medical Group-Surgical Specialties.
The new space is 2,657 square feet and includes four large wound treatment rooms, which are spacious and comfortable. The center also includes more storage for wound and ostomy care supplies as well as a place for one-on-one patient teaching and support meetings.
In addition, the relocation allows Wound Ostomy Center patients to benefit from closer parking spaces and increased handicapped accessibility.
The Wound Ostomy Center has outgrown its space at the North Entrance of the hospital, and this move will make room for future expansion at the North Entrance.
Phelps Health’s Wound Ostomy Center specializes in wound care services to patients with chronic or non-healing wounds and patients with ostomies (surgeries that make a temporary or permanent opening in the skin called a stoma that allows waste to leave the body).
Candy Sadler, an adult geriatric nurse practitioner (AGNP) who is certified in wound, ostomy and continence (WOCN) care, sees patients at the center. Her special interests include wound and ostomy care, and negative-pressure wound therapy.
McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. was the general contractor on the project. Phelps Health has partnered with McCarthy on several construction projects over the last several years.
Phelps Health’s Ostomy Support Group, which offers education for ostomy patients and caregivers, also will change meeting locations beginning in July. The group meets the second Wednesday of each month from 3:00-4:00 PM in the Wound Ostomy Center’s new location.
While the clinic is moving, the hours of operation will stay the same at the new space. The center is open weekdays from 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
