Otoacoustic Emissions

Otoacoustic emissions (OAEs) test the function of the sensory hair cells in your inner ear. This test is used for patients with tinnitus (ringing in the ear), those unable to respond due to age or cognitive ability, newborns, or individuals on medications that may affect hearing. The audiologist will place a probe in your ear, and you'll hear harmonic sounds. There’s no need to respond. The test is painless and takes just a few minutes.
