About Me
I’m Craig Tatom, FNP-BC, and I joined Phelps Health in March 2022 as a family nurse practitioner who specializes in Walk-In Clinic care. I see patients of all ages on a walk-in basis. My collaborating physician is Phelps Health Family Medicine Physician Rachelle Gorrell, DO.
Common procedures that I perform include joint injections; toenail removal; excisions (removals) of lesions and masses; minor biopsies; incision and drainage of wounds/abscesses; wound and burn debridement (removal of dead tissue); Unna Boot application; and EKGs (electrocardiograms). I also see patients for common ailments, including colds, flu, back and joint pain, headaches, urinary tract infections (UTIs), fractures, sprains, STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) and more.
Initially, I wanted to pursue a career as a veterinarian, but later decided to pursue medicine and care for people. I enjoyed anatomy and physiology classes in school. I also come from a family of nurses and feel it is in my nature to help people. I love interacting with people, trying to find solutions to their health problems and assisting them in becoming healthier. Prior to joining Phelps Health, I worked for several years in emergency departments, walk-in clinics and family medicine clinics.
I consider myself a good listener and believe that patient education is important. All patients are human beings who have some type of health issue(s). It doesn’t matter their race, gender, sexual orientation, education, religion, age, etc. My job is to see patients as individuals and provide the best healthcare that I can, regardless of their demographics or the choices they have made in life.
I was born at Phelps Health Hospital and have lived in Dent County, Missouri, most of my life. My wife and I currently reside on a cattle ranch south of Salem, Missouri, and are parents to three grown children who work in the area. We also have three dogs and 30 big pets (cattle). When I can find time, I enjoy woodworking.
I chose to work at Phelps Health because this area is home for me, and I have had many positive interactions with the organization’s physicians, nurses, EMS workers and other staff members. I have been impressed with everyone’s caring manner, not only toward patients, but also toward each other as coworkers. I enjoy being a part of a team that works together to provide high-quality patient care, close to home.

All around great staff and experience
Wait time in exam room was much too long with no communication from staff till after complaint about an 1 hour 15 minutes Dr..Tatom was awesome I would take him every time
Waiting area wait was reasonable but after nurse checked me out the wait for physician was over 30 minutes

I waited 45 minutes in the room and the doctor never came in to see me. I get that they have other patients to see, but that was a ridiculous amount of time to sit there and not be seen.

The only thing I might consider a negative is when I was put in a room I was told I was next in line yet I sit in the room for over 45 minutes and almost went to check to see if they had forgotten. I was there. Of course I don't know if something more important or urgent came up in that time
Cut Out The Coking And Joking Outside Exam Room & Hallways, Extremely Unprofessional!! I Was In The Exam Room For 30 Minutes & 20 Minutes Is How Long The Above Lasted!! It Was Male & Female Voices!!

It was all good
We were pleased with everything. The only suggested is there wasn't any receptionist for about 10 min we we first came in. Didn't know if they were having a lunch time or were just busy. A sign might help just so people know! Everything else was great!

Craig Tatom is wonderful with his patients he makes them feel comfortable. He's respectful and listens to the patient's concerns. He takes the time to answer and concerns that the patient may have.
The nurses were just fine. I sat there for two and a half hours. I was having trouble going to the bathroom. The doctor never one time come in and checked on me or anything. And I thought that was bad manners. And people were gone and out that was even there before me. And I thought it was very disrespectful that the doctor couldn't even come and see me. Thank you.
Fast, professional, caring & friendly, exactly ? what anyone would want from a urgent care facility, and Rolla clinic achieved this goal for us.

It was a nice experience even though I was in pain (broken ankle) Dr and nurses were most helpful.
Staff was efficient and performed their task well. I didn't feel uncomfortable with them and they seemed quite understanding. I have already healed very fast due to their services.

The walk-in clinic always does such a great job.
I explained my symptoms to the nurse and they were very kind and helpful. they ordered a strep test and I received the results in MyChart in a timely manner. They were negative. The provider or nurse never came back in the room to talk about other options. I waited for nearly an hour after the results came in but no one came back and I left by myself.

I was taken back for exam relatively quickly but once in the back room I had to wait over an hour from when the nurse left from taking my vitals until the doctor came in. There was no communication of any sort it seems I was just forgotten about for all that time.
All the staff listened to me and listened to exactly what I was saying. Very quickly, I was met.

Very prompt! Friendly! Professional! Had to get an xray and it only took a couple minutes. Great service hardly any wait time! we did have to wait a little bit for them to read the xray but all in all it was very good and the meds that were called in were ready at Walmart before we got there!!

Everyone is patient and listens! I've unfortunately been here 4x's in the last 2 years...Every time for different injuries and ailments and each time I was well taken cared for!
I was fortunate to have found the Walk-In-Clinic because my PCP had called out sick that day & there was no one else in the office to cover for her. I have nothing but compliments for the Clinic staff & facility.
The only thing is that we wore mask to protect ourselves . I was there because I had a hook in my finger. Several of the people had the flue but no mask . I know you can't make them but the receptionist could strongly recommend they wear one .

I got there around 1:30 in the afternoon and was called with small wait. Maybe 10 minutes. Very complete exam and I was very pleased

The entire experience was great from start to finish. I did not have to wait for too long to see the doctor and everyone was kind and welcoming. This is my first doctor visit in the United States. I hope it's the last, but if it isn't then I know where I'll go to.
Just glad I have a place i can walk into, instead of trying to get in to family doctor, Dr listened asked questions, and in turn i did too. Every was kind and helpful, thank you!
The lobby was packed so we waited in our vehicle which was nice because everyone was coughing in the lonby
We had a problem with getting the prescription sent. The doctor said it was sent and he told us he verified that it was sent, but when we got to the pharmacy, it was not there. And it did not, the prescription did not arrive until the next day. This is the second time that this has happened. So I don't know what's going on with the prescriptions, but they don't always get there in a timely manner.
The nurse practioner I saw was thorough, curious, and knowledgeable.
Very friendly, very caring, very efficient.
I was treated so well by the doctor. He immediately recognized that I had had an ulcer in the past and modified the medication for to do something that would work but be gentler on my stomach. He called it over to Walmart and got me out of there quickly so I could start on the antibiotic immediately. He was absolutely wonderful. I couldn't have asked for better care.

It was the best care I've ever received. They knew I was in pain and put me at high priority in everything. I want to thank each one of them especially the doctor. He was very caring and gave me the best care possible. I have told everyone I know what a great job they did!
Mr. Tatom is by far the best provider that I have ever encountered! He's caring, listens to what you have to say and even joke's with you. I injured my shoulder and was having some difficulty with putting my coat on, and Mr. Tatom without hesitation helped me. I didn't even have to ask, he jumped right in and assisted me.

I wish the walk in clinic doctors were an option for permanent doctors, I always feel comfortable and well looked after.
Every time we have needed an appointment and our PCP is not available, we have had an awesome experience at the walk in clinic. Efficient office with caring providers.
The provider seemed to push off the concerns I had about my foot. And said I had arthritis when that's not the case and I know am in a walking boot. Felt as though the provider just wanted to give a work note.
The staff were wonderful! I was really uncomfortable and they were so understanding and helpful! I am from out of state and new to the clinic and my experience was outstandingly positive!

this is a great place for immediate Medical care. It was not busy the day i went so the wait was short. the providers are very good listeners and take the time the explain treatment. it is impossible to get an appoint with your gp within a two day period. I am glad Phelps has this available.
Everyone was super nice and super helpful. I also enjoyed the classic rock music they played. Only one issue. I went in for a UTI with aches and pins and a horrible headache. I received 4 shots. One was an antibiotic I know. I was so sick I just went home and went to bed. The next morning I was going over my discharge papers and it said that 3 of the shots were for Sinusitis. But one person informed me that I had sinusitis. They did test me for COVID and the flu which came back negative I was told. But I was not informed that I had sinusitis. But I was very happy with everything and everyone. I will be back and will recommend. I won't tell anyone about this. But to be fair I was rather delirious and hurting so I could have missed something. I just think I'd remember that though.
