Three Things to Know
- With support from Cancer Gala & Co., the Phelps Health Foundation and ENT Clinic purchased a new ENT Venue Fit ultrasound machine in early 2025.
- This advanced technology improves biopsy accuracy and speeds up diagnosis for thyroid and head and neck cancers.
- The upgrade means patients experience less waiting, faster results and improved access to lifesaving care.
In early 2025, the Phelps Health Foundation and Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Clinic, with generous support from Cancer Gala & Co., purchased a new ENT Venue Fit ultrasound machine. This state-of-the-art equipment significantly enhances the clinic’s ability to diagnose and treat thyroid and head and neck cancers.
For Phelps Health Otolaryngology (ENT) Surgeon Brian Kriete, MD, the difference was immediate.
“We’ve improved accuracy on biopsies, and the procedures are now faster and less painful for our patients,” Dr. Kriete said. “We’re diagnosing thyroid and head and neck cancers more efficiently, which has been a game changer.”
The ENT Venue Fit, a high-resolution ultrasound machine, delivers detailed imaging and offers seamless guidance during delicate procedures. This new machine improves the clinic’s ability to perform more precise biopsies, with quicker results and improved outcomes for patients facing potential cancer diagnoses.
In the first half of 2024 alone, the clinic completed over 80 biopsies, with 9.3% resulting in a cancer diagnosis. These numbers highlight just how critical early detection is—and how essential the new equipment is to delivering timely, lifesaving care when it matters most.
Beyond the clinical numbers, the ENT Venue Fit helps lessen the emotional toll that often comes with a potential cancer diagnosis. Shorter diagnosis timelines result in less waiting, less uncertainty and quicker access to essential care.
“This equipment aligns with our mission to provide high-quality, accessible healthcare,” said Dr. Kriete. “When you're facing a possible cancer diagnosis, every day counts. Faster results can bring clarity and peace of mind.”
The support from Cancer Gala & Co. and the Foundation has empowered the ENT Department to embrace innovation and ensure that local patients have access to advanced diagnostic tools—in their own community.
“To anyone considering supporting cancer care in our region, I would say: ‘Do it,’” Dr. Kriete said. “Your gift directly impacts your neighbors, friends and loved ones. It’s more than equipment—it’s a commitment to timely care, early answers and better outcomes.”
Thanks to this commitment from our generous supporters—and this investment in innovative technology—patients now spend less time waiting and more time getting the care they need.
