Three Things to Know

  • Groundbreaking Ceremony: Phelps Health will host a public event on September 24, 2025, at its main campus in Rolla to mark the start of construction.
  • $60 Million Expansion: The new 80,000-square-foot Emergency Department addition will add exam rooms, trauma, imaging and behavioral health areas.
  • Community Impact: The project strengthens emergency and specialty care for more than 200,000 residents across south-central Missouri.

Phelps Health will host a public groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction on its new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department (ED) in Rolla. The event will be held from 4:00 to 5:00 PM at the East Entrance of the Phelps Health campus, located at 1000 West 14th Street in Rolla.

The 80,000-square-foot facility addition represents a $60 million investment in emergency care for the region.

“This project is another way that we are going beyond better for our patients and community,” said Jason Shenefield, president and CEO of Phelps Health. “With an expanded facility, we will be able to deliver timely, compassionate care when every minute matters. This is an investment not only in our patients and our team, but also in the future of healthcare for our entire region.”

The expanded ED will nearly double its current footprint, adding almost 38,000 square feet of space designed to improve service to patients and families. The new layout will feature additional exam rooms, along with specialized areas dedicated to imaging, trauma and behavioral health. A larger, more welcoming waiting area will provide comfort and support for patients and their loved ones. In addition, the upper floors of the facility will offer flexible space to accommodate future growth, ensuring that Phelps Health can continue meeting the community’s evolving healthcare needs for years to come.

The groundbreaking event will begin promptly at 4:00 PM, and guests are asked to park in the Orange Lot. Attendees will hear remarks from Phelps Health leaders and view architectural renderings of the new addition. Light refreshments will be served.
