Three Things to Know

  • The Phelps Health Comprehensive Breast Center has earned a 3-year accreditation in MRI and mammography from the American College of Radiology (ACR), signifying top standards in image quality and patient safety.
  • This accreditation was awarded after a thorough review by ACR experts in radiology and radiation oncology, looking at key areas such as image quality, staff qualifications and quality control procedures.
  • The accreditation proves to patients that the Comprehensive Breast Center meets national standards for breast cancer detection and screening, offering trusted care and advanced imaging services.

Just in time for Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October, the Phelps Health Comprehensive Breast Center has earned a 3-year accreditation in MRI and mammography by the American College of Radiology® (ACR®) after thorough review.

MRI, or magnetic resonance imaging, is a test that uses magnetic fields to take detailed images of the body, helping physicians diagnose and treat various medical conditions. Mammography, or a mammogram, is a type of X-ray used to check for breast diseases, such as early-stage cancer, in women.

The ACR's review was conducted by experts in radiology and radiation oncology to make sure the center meets its high standards for quality and safety.

“We are very proud of our team for earning this important accreditation,” said Sean Cartwright, medical imaging hospital manager at Phelps Health. “This shows the hard work and dedication of our staff to provide the highest-quality care and imaging services for our patients.”

Earning the ACR’s gold seal of accreditation signifies that the Phelps Health Comprehensive Breast Center has met the highest standards for image quality and patient safety. This accreditation is only given to centers that meet or exceed the ACR’s requirements based on ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards. The evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists examines key areas such as image quality, staff qualifications, equipment adequacy, quality control procedures and overall quality assurance.

This accreditation lets patients know that the Comprehensive Breast Center meets the nation’s top standards for medical imaging and quality control. Patients can trust that the center has passed a detailed review by top experts in the field.
