The Phelps Health Chaplaincy Team is made up of trained spiritual care providers and members of our healthcare team.
What We Do
The Phelps Health Chaplaincy Team provides spiritual care services at the Hospital, the Delbert Day Cancer Institute (DDCI) and the Medical Office Building. Phelps Health chaplains, representing all faiths, provide coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to individuals seeking spiritual support and guidance. Spiritual care services are available to all Phelps Health patients and their family members, and employees.
As chaplains, we actively listen and support the spiritual and emotional health of all patients, family members and employees, regardless of their faith, beliefs or lack thereof. Everyone can expect respect and compassion, no matter the circumstance.
Chaplain services include the following:
- Support through prayer or physical presence
- Support before and/or after a medical procedure
- Support when facing a difficult diagnosis/prognosis
- Support when facing a difficult decision
- Support during stressful times
- Support to help ease feelings of doubt, discouragement, loneliness or fear
- Support when dealing with a crisis, grief or death
- Support for other individualized concerns
- Assistance exploring your beliefs and understanding spirituality, a higher power and God
- Assistance connecting with your faith community and/or spiritual resources
- Provision of rosaries, anointing oil, Bibles and other sacred texts, literature and devotional books
- Performance of communion, blessings and dedications of babies, and baptisms of adults and infants
- Assistance accessing religious resources
- Upon request, we can notify your clergy of your current admission.
