Hospice Volunteers

Phelps Health Home Health and Hospice has a dedicated team of hospice volunteers who bring comfort and support to hospice patients and their families.

  • Hospice volunteers help in situations when nurses are not needed. Volunteers can sit and hold patients’ hands, read to them and have conversations with them. Volunteers try to help with any special requests, including running errands, mowing grass, raking leaves, etc.
  • Volunteers also are needed to help with office support and perform clerical duties, such as putting packets together, stuffing envelopes, preparing mailings and helping with bereavement and memorial services.
  • There are no scheduling specifications to be a hospice volunteer. If some people work during the day, they can opt to volunteer only during the evenings. Some may prefer just to volunteer at nursing homes, and that is fine too. The schedule is 100% flexible. Volunteers can decide what they help with and when they do it.
