About Me

I’m Yam Sharma, MD, a pediatrician who joined Phelps Health in September 2026. I treat patients ages 18 and younger for a wide range of pediatric concerns, including asthma, ear infections and respiratory infections. I have a special interest in developmental and neurodevelopmental conditions, such as autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and growth concerns.

My family played a large role in my decision to become a doctor. I grew up watching local doctors and seeing how patients responded to their care. I made up my mind that I wanted to help people in the same way. During my training, I developed an interest in pediatrics after working with babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Some of those moments stuck with me and led me to choose pediatrics as a specialty. It’s fulfilling to be able to catch conditions early and watch patients grow and stay healthy as I continue to care for them.

Before my residency, I worked with children in Nepal and China. I also have experience caring for patients in a variety of settings, including primary care, specialized hospital care and NICUs. These experiences have given me a well-rounded approach to caring for patients and families.

Caring for children comes with a unique responsibility. I strive to give every child the best care while ensuring their families leave each appointment feeling heard, not rushed and confident that we are making the best decisions together.

I have always wanted to help bring quality care to people in underserved and rural areas—from my work in Nepal to my work at Phelps Health. The small-town atmosphere here was very appealing and a good fit for me.

My wife and I now live in Rolla and have found the community to be very welcoming. As a nature lover, I particularly like watching the seasons change, taking walks, and visiting local parks and scenic areas. I’m also a movie buff and enjoy relaxing while watching a good film.

I also offer telehealth visits, which allow patients to visit with me remotely using a smartphone, tablet or computer with an internet connection and audio-video capabilities.

In addition to English, I am fluent in Chinese, Hindi and Nepalese.
