About Me

I’m Jennie Orlando, FNP-C, and I joined the Phelps Health Walk-In Clinics in February 2023 as a family nurse practitioner (FNP). I see patients of all ages on a walk-in basis. My collaborating physician is Jeffery Kerr, DO, medical director of Walk-In Clinic services. I am not new to Phelps Health, having worked as an ED (Emergency Department) nurse for 7 years before stepping into this role.

Common procedures that I perform include EKGs (electrocardiograms), suturing and splintering, and incision and drainage of wounds. I also see patients for common ailments, including colds, flu, back and joint pain, UTIs (urinary tract infections), STDs (sexually transmitted diseases) and more.

I grew up on a farm with horses in New Jersey and initially wanted to be a vet. A personal family tragedy, however, shifted my course, and I decided I wanted to care for people instead. Chemistry and microbiology were favorite classes of mine in school, so healthcare seemed like a natural fit.

I began my healthcare career as a CNA (certified nursing assistant), advanced to an LPN (licensed practical nurse) and RN (registered nurse), to an FNP where I am today. Education is important to me; I never want to stop learning.

As a provider, my golden rule is to listen to my patients. I have a hard and fast rule to never talk over my patients. They know themselves best, and I want to be their advocate. Having been a nurse since 2004, I bring a good deal of patient experience to the Walk-In Clinics.

As a teenager, my family moved from New Jersey to Houston, Missouri. Today, St. James is home for my husband and me. We are empty nesters with adult children. It’s not quiet, however, with three dogs, one cat, two horses and an African Grey parrot. In my spare time, I love riding horses, gardening and reading.

I like that Phelps Health is patient-centered and education-oriented. I’ve been able to use the tuition reimbursement to grow professionally. For these reasons, I chose – and continue to – choose Phelps Health.

I understand its a walk in clinic, but with 3 people ahead of me, I waited for 2 hours to be seen. Other than the lengthly wait, everything else was really good.

Whenever the nurse came into the room, I believe I was on the phone with somebody at work who was having trouble navigating a computer system. And they had somebody there in front of them at their desk trying to get help. And I feel like the nurse was losing patience with me because I was on the phone, but it was work-related, helping a co-worker in distress who could not get through the computer to find the information they needed for the customer.

I was feeling so dizzy and Jennie Orlando, Nurse Practitioner saw to it that I received a dose of Meclizine before she saw me to see if it would help. And it did, somewhat. I have always been pleased with my care at Phelps Health Urgent Care. I am so thankful it is close to my home because I would have not been able to drive across town to my PCP. Likely, I would have not been able to get in same day.

Patient care exceeded expectations. The toilet where you take urine samples is leaking and causing rust to form on the stool. I reported it and they said it has reported to maintenance but no one fixes it.

I was having issues that I knew needed lab tests run. For whatever reason, Jennie was not able to do that.

Everybody in there treated me with respect, and went basically beyond out of their way to help me out and I appreciate all that. So did everybody else. And thank you. I didn't have to wait that long, and everybody explained and done their job accurately, and what they should have done. So you all have a good day and yeah, I look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

I thought everything was great. I arrived, the receptionist told me, took information, had me have a seat in the waiting room. Almost immediately, someone came to get me. I explained the problem. She answered me back. And then they sent my prescription over to Walmart. As soon as I walked up to the pharmacist in Walmart, they had my prescription ready. So I thought everything was great.

They were very helpful and explained everything.

She asked where to send my antibiotics, I said Walgreens 2 or 3 times. I checked with Walgreens a couple of times and said it wasn't there. I called the clinic back and they said it was sent to Walmart. Walgreens doesn't sound like Walmart.

I cannot think of a single thing that would have or could have adequate this urgent visit better. I was greeted kindly and compassionate as was the remainder of my very short visit. Worst poison ivy in history and they got me all full of the stuff I needed and called in the meds to my local pharmacy. They were ALL very kind and professional.
