About Me

I’m Sydney Fryer, FNP-C, and I joined the Phelps Health Walk-In Clinics in June 2023 as a certified family nurse practitioner. I see patients of all ages on a walk-in basis. My collaborating physician is Phelps Health Family Medicine Physician Rachelle Gorrell, DO. I am not new to the organization, having worked as a nurse in the float pool and with cardiac and neurology patients at Phelps Health for 7 years before assuming this role.

Common procedures that I perform include suturing and splinting, and incision and drainage of wounds. I also see patients for common ailments, such as colds, flu, back and joint pain and more. I love the variety of the Walk-In Clinic; no two days are alike.

You could say I grew up at Phelps Health, with my mom working as a nurse in the OB (Obstetrics) Unit and now as a pediatric nurse practitioner with Phelps Health. Without a doubt, she is my inspiration for choosing the healthcare field. I remember my mom coming home from long shifts in scrubs and reflecting on her days. I’ve always looked up to her and admired her drive and how, even after a long, 12-hour shift, she was always so positive and willing to go the extra mile for her patients. From a young age, I knew that I wanted to be a nurse.

As a high school student in Rolla, I attended the Health Science Academy through Rolla Technical Institute/Center to become a CNA (certified nursing assistant). I then worked as a CNA at a local nursing home and at Phelps Health with cardiac and neurology patients.

After high school, I furthered my education to become an LPN (licensed practical nurse), an RN (registered nurse) and eventually an FNP (family nurse practitioner), where I am today. At every step of my journey, Phelps Health Telemetry Director Barb McNamara encouraged me to keep going and to reach for the stars.

As a provider, I strive to treat each patient as if they were my mom, dad or child, etc. I consider myself nonjudgmental and want patients to know they can safely open up to me. Education also is important to me. I want patients to clearly understand their care and know there is no such thing as a dumb question.

Rolla continues to be home for me, my husband, our two young children and our beagle. My family all lives in Rolla, and we love the Rolla school system. Outside of work, we treasure family time and love the outdoors and going floating on the beautiful area rivers.

Every year, I look forward to fall. I love everything about the season, including the weather, pumpkin spice, Halloween and hunting. You can usually catch me hunting in the woods with my husband, enjoying the sunset and listening to nature during this time of year. I love watching sports, whether it be watching them on TV or attending games in person. Basketball is my favorite, but I love to watch football, hockey and baseball, too. Go Cardinals and Blues!

For me, Phelps Health feels like home, having started as a CNA and worked my way up to where I am today. In this role, I look forward to meeting new patients from all walks of life.

Hi there. We had an excellent visit with Ms. Sydney. She did awesome. Her staff was fantastic. The only thing that I would say was the music in the waiting room or in the, sorry, in the room waiting to see her, it was just kind of annoying. I would take that away. That's the only thing I would change about the entire visit. Thank you.

Sydney was amazing. I was in extreme pain and needed help, it took a while but I am healing and feeling better. It was good to get an xray and know nothing was broken and the steroids helped with the inflammation.

Sydney was amazing! She even drew a unicorn on the bandage for our daughter after stitching her up. I was so thankful for her!!

I normally go on post to GLWACH. They just do not care or listen. I plan to change my PCM to a Phelps provider because they listen and seem to care. I didn't think I would get better, and I finally am!

Yeah, I think you guys did great. I'm really glad you're in Rolla. A couple things, when people are sick, they don't want to hear, loud children's shows going on in the waiting room. It almost made me puke. And then I think the music, I know you have it turned up pretty loud, but some people can't hear between the rooms, but it just needs to come down just a little bit and maybe, do a mix thing instead of, the day I was there, it was all country, and country makes me want to hurl. And so it was really hard sitting in there when I was sick. So that's it. I was really happy with everybody else. Women are all nice. Men are, you guys are great. You guys are great.

I did have to come back because they were busy, and they were short a doctor. My husband had to get back to work (he was watching the kids for me while I waited). I came back that afternoon and was seen quickly. I really enjoyed Sydney. She has a happy and bubbly personality. Very kind.

Everyone there was super friendly and made me feel welcome. They explained everything going on thoroughly and gave me some clear instruction to help make me feel better. They also got me into and X-ray and the lady doing it was super friendly. They gave me some tips and tricks and gave me a paper with instructions that would help me get better.

The staff was extremely courteous and even though the office was very busy, we had less than an hour wait time, which is pretty good in an urgent care facility. The provider, the nurse, and everybody in there was very, very nice, courteous, and the provider listened to all my concerns and explained everything very clearly.

The lack of blood ability of the clinic to do blood work limited the diagnosis that I received.

All staff were engaging and very pleasant. The attending nurse and NP were excellent.

It was after a 3 day weekend. The number of patients were high. Everyone was apologetic for the long wait but didn't rush me out. They gave quality care. I am feeling much better, the PA listened to me, the diagnosis and treatment started me feeling bettet.

The wait time was ridiculously long , but staff and services were excellent

Wonderful provider and nurse. They really helped me during a very stressful visit. My concern is that no one masks. Not even nurses or all providers. It's not a good choice. Phelps should really be ashamed of caving to political pressure. Tons of Covid cases, viruses, etc. Masks are a reasonable ask. Second, the waiting room is so tiny and crowded. It's ridiculous. How about a room for those with contagious issues and those with other issues? And then please for the love of God stop asking people to use the same pen device to sign for treatment. It's madness. It's the perfect way to spread germs. Please rethink these policies. It's not about politics. It's common sense. My other concern is the loud music piped into rooms. I assume the purpose is to maximize privacy, but I find it agitating and distracting and stressful. How about just classical music if anything?

The care provider did not ask many questions about my condition. Assumed a virus yet my lungs he said sounded wheezy. I asked multiple times about a chest X-ray to rule out things like pneumonia which he did not give because he said it wouldn't be conclusive. Lots of talking from him about what antibiotics, steroids, virus, bacteria, nasal spray, Zyrtec, etc was, but just not much listening.

Our Experience was incredible. We walked in very worried and scared and by the end we were calm and laughing. Even though we came in close to closing, we did not feel rushed. Everyone answered our questions with care and understanding. Dr Fryer was so helpful and kind. I don't think I would have felt as calm and understood with anyone else. I will definitely be returning and thankful for all the staff there that night.

Did a thorough job of checking for what was wrong with me, explained what was going on & what to do after checking out. All in a very respectful manner.

Everyone was very kind and professional. I didn't have a wait period other than waiting for radiologist to read X-ray and send results and that didn't take long either. I was very pleased and would recommend you all to all of my friends

I'm a single dad with 3 kid, and the staff here did not call DFS. That's a win in my book. And on top of that everyone was very very nice!
Aug 5, 2024
The wait time was long, however there were a lot of patients. My main concern was the number of patients wearing masks, sniffing, coughing, etc. If someone is that sick, they should be taken back to a room away from others, or I could have waited in my car and been called when it was time to be seen.

Absolutely no complaints. Everyone was friendly, smiled, made me feel welcomed.
