An unprecedented 15 physicians and advanced practice providers joined Phelps Health in August and September, expanding access across south-central Missouri from routine care to specialized treatment.
In 2026, a total of 29 new providers have joined Phelps Health in specialties ranging from primary care and general surgery to gastroenterology and neurosurgery. With more than 100 providers spanning around 20 specialties, Phelps Health continues to expand the care options available to community members across its six-county region.
“Every new provider who joins our team brings us one step closer to our mission and vision: delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare while becoming the preferred health system in our region,” said Shalena Doss, director of Physician Recruitment, Onboarding and Retention at Phelps Health. “We’re honored that so many talented physicians and advanced practice providers are choosing to build their careers here, recognizing the impact they will have on our patients and community.”
For patients who need specialized treatment, that growth can make a meaningful difference. Bassam Hadi, MD, joined Phelps Health in the spring as a neurosurgeon, bringing a new specialty to the health system.
“I chose Phelps Health because of the exceptional people and the opportunity to bring advanced spine and neurosurgical care closer to the community,” Dr. Hadi said. “I appreciate the genuine community in Rolla. I truly enjoy my time here and the welcoming people I’ve had the pleasure of working with.”
The new providers also bring their skills and experience to communities where they can build lasting relationships with patients. Physician Assistant Allison Blacksher, who sees patients of all ages at the Phelps Health–St. James Clinic, said community was a deciding factor.
“I chose to join Phelps Health because I was inspired by the health system’s commitment to being involved in the community and making a difference in the lives of the people it serves,” Blacksher said.
Doss added that two internal medicine physicians are scheduled to join Phelps Health in 2027, continuing the expansion of care options for community members.
With a growing range of providers and specialties, patients have more options for getting the care they need and spending less time traveling for it—leaving more time for what matters most.
