Phelps Health invites the public to a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new state-of-the-art Emergency Medical Services (EMS) base at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, May 21. The event will be held at the new EMS base on the main Phelps Health campus at 1000 West 14th Street in Rolla.
The 17,500-square-foot facility was designed to enhance Phelps Health’s emergency response capabilities, support EMS personnel and improve regional patient care. The ribbon-cutting celebration will include brief remarks from Phelps Health leaders and community representatives, followed by tours of the new facility until 4:30 PM.
“This new EMS base represents a significant investment in our ability to deliver exceptional emergency care,” said Phelps Health President and CEO Jason Shenefield. “We’re proud to share this milestone with the community and celebrate what it means for the future of emergency services in our region.”
The new EMS base features:
• Eight ambulance bays (increased from four to eight)
• A second helicopter landing pad
• 16 bunk rooms for EMS staff and Phelps Air crews
• Training rooms, modern amenities to support continued education and long shifts
• A tornado storm shelter to keep crews safe during severe weather
“The EMS base reflects our deep commitment to providing patients with timely, high-quality care, from the moment help is needed,” said Keri Brookshire-Heavin, senior vice president, chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at Phelps Health. “This new facility was intentionally designed to support our EMS teams with the space, resources and environment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively. Investing in our emergency services and supporting our first responders improves care in our communities.”
The facility, partially funded by a $4 million American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) grant from the State of Missouri, replaces the previous EMS base on 18th Street and positions EMS teams closer to the Emergency Department while maintaining quick access to I-44.
“This new base allows us to respond faster and more effectively,” said Michael Gruenberg, director of ambulance services at Phelps Health. “It’s a game-changer for our teams and the communities we serve.”
The ribbon-cutting is open to the public, and all are welcome to attend. Light refreshments will be provided, and attendees will have the opportunity to meet members of the EMS team.
