About Me

I'm Matthew Hurley, MD, a board-certified family medicine physician who joined Phelps Health in 2012. I enjoy taking care of children and adults.

My collaborating providers are Family Nurse Practitioners Miriam Brawley, Barbie Fulton, Sandra Headrick and Abby Blanc

I became interested in healthcare early on in my undergraduate years. I wanted a job where I could help people and care for the whole family. I find you get better outcomes when you know the entire family.

In addition to family practice, I perform skin lesion removals, joint injections and dermatological (skin) procedures. I’m also interested in musculoskeletal injuries.

When patients come to see me, I hope they see that I listen to them and understand what’s important to them. If they have any underlying medical conditions, I want them to understand those conditions and what it takes to keep them under control.

I also offer telehealth visits, which allow patients to visit with me remotely using a smartphone, tablet or computer with an internet connection and audio-video capabilities.

Lab blood draw was done so well I did not notice the needle stick. BP was elevated and was check several times prior to release. Update on medications was taken. All in all a perfict annual visit.

Both my wife and I felt that the doctors were relying far too much on technology and not analyzing and then diagnosing each individual. They were nice about it. However, there needs to be some level of ownership on the doctor or understanding the individual and potential health issues and recommending solutions. The gamut of solutions not just drugs.

Everyone in the office was prompt, professional and courteous. When I first phoned to make an appointment with Dr. Hurley, the scheduler was rude, scheduled me for an office visit 30 miles away, rather than in Rolla,and wouldn't correct the error. I phoned back the next day after I had confirmed online that I wasn't going to be scheduled in Rolla. The second scheduler was very kind and professional and corrected the mistake.

One suggestion I'd make is for the nurse to introduce herself, tell you her name. It just makes you feel a little more comfortable to know you're talking to a person. And the other thing is when I have worked at, I've gone to, down by the hospital, excuse me, in that office, They always give you a printout about the office visit and it might have some other information that they want you to do and it will say what blood tests you have and maybe your next appointment and there might be some instructions. So I didn't, your office didn't do that. So that would be a suggestion I would have too. Thank you. Bye.

Disappointed as this was for a checkup and the doctor did nothing other than go over my lab results. No checking my heart, look at my throat, ears, nothing. I didn't receive a checkup, I got a consultation.

Everyone was very kind. They took time to explore whether or not I had the flu or COVID. They met all of my needs. I just need more time to get to know Dr. Hurley and he needs to get to know me. This was my third visit and I have no complaints about him or anyone in the office. It's just taking a while to work out the expectation.

I love that I see Dr Hurley when I make an appt. Other doctors often just have you see a nurse practioner and you have to ask specifically if you want to see the Dr. The automated messaging was a little odd this time, in that, it sent a msg after my appt was set that the appt was no longer available and I'd be on a wait list. I finally ask for confirmation of my appt and it was scheduled on the date and time originally set.

I was there for a wellness check. Nobody listened to my heart or anything. Didn't take blood. Didn't do a cholesterol check. So I was very unfounded and disappointed that nothing happened. But I guess I'm in great shape.

I am always treated with respect and kindness. I am extremely satisfied with Dr. Hurley and his staff. The staff are always quick to check me in and get me back to a room. The nurse who takes my vitals and asks why I'm there is always very nice and helpful. Dr. Hurley is very attentive and listens to everything I have to say and does his very best to treat any problem I have. This is why I travel for an hour and 20 minutes to see Dr. Hurley. The best doctor I have ever had and I have seen a few in my long lifetime.

My experience would have been better if my visit notes were correct. I have a retinal occlusion not a renal occlusion. That is kind of important.

Everyone was so nice and helpful! I appreciate the fine staff that works at this clinic! They have a way of welcoming patients to the clinic, they answer your questions and if they don't know the answer they will talk to the doctor or nurse and come back to you with an answer! I have been going to this clinic since 2009. Many of the doctors and staff have changed but the way they operate the clinic hasn't changed.
